How to prepare for your child's first swimming lesson

A child's first swimming lesson is an exciting step, but it can also feel new and uncertain. Some children arrive ready to jump in, while others need time to watch, understand the space and build trust with the instructor. Both reactions are normal.

Parents can help by keeping the preparation calm and positive. Try not to make the lesson sound like a test. Instead, talk about meeting the teacher, getting used to the pool and learning little steps at a time.
